We are Proud to Introduce Laser Therapy!

What is Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy, or “photobiomodulation”, is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. Laser therapy has been widely utilized in Europe by physical therapists, nurses and doctors as far back as the 1970′s. Now, after FDA clearance in 2002, Laser Therapy is being used extensively in the United States.

This treatment has helped many humans, including some major league baseball teams with pain and inflammation. We are proud to announce that we offer the same treatment for our furry four-legged companions! It is a non-invasive and relaxing procedure that only takes about 30 minutes of your time. If your pet suffers from any of the following conditions, they may benefit from Laser Therapy:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Joint Pain
  • Edema and Congestion
  • Muscle Strains
  • Puncture Wounds
  • Post-Traumatic Injury
  • Post-Surgical Pain
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Chronic Wounds
  • Post-Orthopedic Surgery Recovery

What to expect?

There is no patient sedation or restraint required and the experience is usually pleasant and comforting to them. The best part is that you may stay with your pet during the treatment if you choose! Although improvement is often seen after the first visit, most patients require several treatments for the greatest benefit. For most conditions, a multi-visit treatment is recommended. Treatments vary in length, however, most sites require 2 to 8 minutes. A majority of patients exhibit greater comfort and mobility within 12 to 24 hours after treatment. Your veterinarian will recommend a treatment plan that is specific to your pet’s condition.

Laser Therapeutic Effects

During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing oxygen, water, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing evironment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.
